The gallery of sandwich
@HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity
Gallery of Sandwich is an educational food-art workshop developed and delivered by Deep Food for secondary school students at HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, a school specialising in creative arts.
The workshop began with an introduction to Deep Food’s edible creative practice, exploring how food can function not only as nourishment, but also as an artistic medium. Students were then invited to reinterpret a favourite artwork as a sandwich, translating its colours, forms, textures, composition and ideas into edible ingredients.
The experience concluded with the collective curation of the Gallery of Sandwich. Using the school kitchen and dining table as an improvised gallery space, students presented their edible works, shared their creative processes and encountered one another’s interpretations through looking, making and eating.
Through this hands-on and participatory format, the workshop enabled teenage participants to explore art in an edible form—transforming artistic appreciation into material experimentation, shared expression and a communal meal.
